Physical Education

Promoting lifelong engagement in sport and a passion for health and exercise as well as independent skills and the knowledge to implement a healthy lifestyle.

The PE Department aims to develop healthy, active young people with a love for pursuing lifelong engagement in physical fitness. To provide students with opportunities to become aware of their own physical abilities through continual physical and mental challenge. Developing fundamental skills through practical activities allows them to permeate through all aspects of school and beyond. Complementing practical skills with theoretical based concepts allows us to encourage a better understanding of how their body works and the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. By encouraging the key skills of leadership, teamwork, communication, resilience, determination and competition, students become exposed to both challenges and problem solving through physical skills. Knowledge is acquired through developmental practices in conjunction with independent reflection to identify next steps.

The PE curriculum is structured to raise student aspirations through challenging and differentiated tasks which encourage independence and a desire to become a better sports practitioner. Students are encouraged to collaborate in team games and to also discover new skills by creating sports programmes and physical routines. Students have the opportunity to explore sports from across the world and this allows for exciting and engaging lessons across both key stages. Ensuring that students are suitably prepared for the future is key within the PE curriculum and it is designed to allow students to explore the different job roles that continuing an education in PE can direct you to.
