Mathematics

We teach mathematics to develop the logical thought and reasoning process of our students.  This creates young mathematicians who have the skills, knowledge and resilience to solve complex mathematical problems. The intent of the mathematics department is to ensure that every student is pushed and challenged to achieve a deep understanding of mathematical concepts (number, algebra, geometry, statistics, probability and ratio) that will help prepare them for the many widely-ranged problems that our students will encounter in today’s modern world.

Students can use mathematics to help solve or understand global issues facing society today. For example, data analysis of climate change, carbon emissions or spread of disease. Mathematics is a crucial element in many daily problems and is hugely important in industries such as finance, technology, engineering and construction. We aim to equip students with the vital mathematical skills to enable them to apply these for which ever career path they take.

We want our students to not be afraid of making mistakes in the classroom. Making mistakes is a crucial part of learning, and we praise effort as much as success. By developing a culture of growth mindset our students do not feel daunted by complex problems.  Instead our students have a deep, long term, secure and adaptable understanding of the subject.
